FVRO’s campaign to end large-scale transnational fraud reaches another milestone

Today the White House approved partial sanctions against the government of Cambodia for failing to close so-called “pig butchering” scam call centers that use indentured slaves to defraud Americans of billions of dollars per year. The Fraud Victim Rights Organization would like to thank President Biden for this action, provided that this is part of a continuum of actions that will escalate during FY2025 if the government of Cambodia does not take immediate steps to close scam call centers. We understand there are many competing geopolitical concerns with respect to Cambodia, but protecting Americans, especially its seniors, takes top priority.

I would like to extend my personal appreciation to the thousands of committed activists who engaged on this important issue and contacted their elected representatives to urge imposition of sanctions under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act against the government of Cambodia. Today marks an important victory against transnational consumer fraud. This victory would not have been possible without your direct action.

Where do we go from here?

The relatively small number of transnational criminal organizations responsible for most of the consumer fraud in America are large, extremely sophisticated, and well entrenched. They will not go down without a fight. This will be a long fight.

What we need to do right now is get the U.S. government to formalize and provide structure for its fight against fraud.

  • Somebody needs to be in charge.
  • There needs to be a strategy.
  • Congress needs to regularly evaluate whether this strategy is working.

So please take a moment to contact your elected representatives and tell them we need someone in the U.S. government to be in charge of stopping fraud.
